How to repair your hair from chemical damage?

What causes hair damage?

Most of the time hair damage comes from over process of chemicals, for example, coloring, highlighting, bleaching and permanent straightening. Over use of heat like flat iron and curling iron comes second. Environmental damage from dry weather or UV from the Sun came third. Chlorine and salt water from swimming can also affect the health of the hair if you do it constantly.

What to do if your hair is damaged.

If you notice your hair has been damaged from one of the above, stop that process right away. That will allow the hair to take a break from the damage and at the same time, you can perform certain procedure to restore some of the health of the hair.

It doesn’t mean that you have to stop coloring or straighten your hair permanently. It is just a process to give back what your hair has lost, so you don’t damage the hair further to a point where it is not fixable. Think of it like you injured yourself from exercising, you have to let your body heal before you can exercise again.

How to repair damaged hair by yourself ? ( The professional way )

There are tons of hair products on the shelves that says it can repair damaged hair, but which one you should get?

Basically, they all serve to tighten hair bonds, replenish keratin content in the hair, close hair cuticles. Hair usually feels a difference right after. The question is… does it actually heal the hair to its original state? NO, nothing will ever bring your hair back to virgin. Even the most expensive hair brand does not do magic.

Does that mean you shouldn’t buy those products? No, if your hair is damaged, doing something is for sure better than nothing. It is just a matter of what you should do.

I limited them to 3 categories:

  1. Hair mask – It is a intensive hair treatment that is formulated with oils, collagen and other nourishing ingredients. The result is usually temporary and you will need to do it regularly.
  2. Hair bonds re-builder – Olapex is a good example for this. It helps tightens the hair bond making the hair stronger from the inside out. The result is not as noticeable as it works mainly inside the hair, making the hair stronger, not prettier.
  3. Keratin Treatment – It fills the hair up with Keratin and Collagen, seals the hair cuticles with heat during the process. Hair is made mainly with Keratin, by giving back the keratin content to the hair, it is like hair re-born again. Sealing the hair with Keratin is like putting a top coat on the hair, it shines up the hair, making it look healthy again. Hair gets both the inside and outside benefits in one. It is also the longest lasting treatment of all. You can contact us if you need more information on Keratin Treatment.

Should you stop once you feel the hair is healthy again?

Once hair is damaged, it will never be the same no matter how much you do to it. Yes, it is like putting a broken mirror back together, there is always gonna be cracks. Whatever kind of treatment you have chosen to use is going to make your hair better to a certain extend, you will have to keep up with the process in order to maintain it. In fact, even your hair is not damaged, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to do one of those treatment to intensify the hair quality and to protect the hair form damage.
